In November 2021, Advokatbladet reported on a demonstration outside the Turkish Embassy in Oslo. The demonstration was part of a coordinated European solidarity event in support of persecuted lawyers in Turkey.

Representatives from the Norwegian Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee, including Servet Yildiz Stêrk and Maria Hessen Jacobsen, attended wearing legal robes to protest against the persecution of lawyers in Turkey. The event took place in the same week as the trial against lawyers Barkin Timtik and Selcuk Kozagacli commenced in Istanbul.

According to The Arrested Lawyers Initiative, more than 1,600 lawyers have been arrested and 450 lawyers sentenced to a total of 2,786 years in prison in Turkey following the attempted coup against President Erdoğan in 2016.

"It is rare and unorthodox for Norwegian lawyers to demonstrate in robes, but we make an exception for an important cause: We cannot accept that Turkish lawyers are imprisoned both for their profession and for their expressions," said Else Leona McClimans, head of the Human Rights Committee, in her address.

Representatives from the Norwegian Judges Association, the Helsinki Committee, the Juristforbundet, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), Amnesty, PEN Norway, and the Police Lawyers Association, as well as refugees from Turkey, were also present at the event.
